Beginning Quilting
Friday, August 21 & Friday, August 28 | 10:30 AM – 4:30 PM
In this class we will be making a Nine-Patch quilt top from start to finish. The quilt also includes a Nine-Patch Variation block. Both are classic blocks used in many quilts.
You will learn to use different quilt making tools including a rotary cutter and ruler to cut your fabric accurately. You will learn how to sew accurate ¼” seams and important pressing techniques.
Required Book: Start Quilting by Alex Anderson ($13.00 with class purchase, Reg. $14.95)
Class Prep:
Read pages 8-9 for help in choosing fabric. Read page 24 for Fabric requirements. Purchase your fabric before class. You may contact the instructor prior to class if you have any questions or need assistance selecting your fabric.
Supplies:
- A sewing machine in good working condition with one wound bobbin and a few empty bobbins
- The User’s Manual for your machine or know how to access it online
- 1/4” foot or know if your machine will move the needle to the ¼” mark (if you have neither we’ll use tape to mark your sewing line)
- Size 80/12 sewing needles for piecing (Universal or Microtex)
- 50 wt thread (neutral color such as gray or cream)
- Cutting Mat: 18” x 24” or 24” x 36”
- Rotary Cutter: 45mm, with a new blade
- Ruler: 6.5” x 12.5” and 2.5” square
- Scissors (small for snipping threads)
- Seam Ripper
- Patchwork/Quilting Pins – I recommend Flat Head
- Stiletto (optional)
