Tucker University Sophomore Month #2

The TU Sophomore year is a continuation of learning Studio 180 Design skills. In the first semester, students will expand their skill level with tools they purchased during Freshman year. They will need to purchase 2 new tools…The Hunter’s Star and the Four Patch Square Up.

The second semester will be focused on each student designing their own quilt top, whether it be traditional or modern, all the way through the binding. Thus, students will be encouraged to have a finished project in the end.

Studio 180 Design tools offer:

- Multiple sizes on every tool
- Slightly oversized construction for trimming to precise unit size
- Left and Right handed cutting instructions
- Technique sheets with additional technique options for each tool (laminated)
- Free videos with the additional help for every tool and technique.

The first 6 months tools are:

Month 1: Birds of Paradise (Large Square Squared tool)
Month 2: Stacked Squares (Large Square Squared tool)
Month 3: Rapid Fire Hunter’s Star (Rapid Fire Hunter’s Star Petite tool)
Month 4: Eight at Once & Non-mirror Combo Units (Tucker Trimmer I or III)
Month 5: Four Patch Square Up (Four Patch Square Up tool)
Month 6: Geese on the Edge (Wing Clipper tool)

This year’s class fee includes the required laminated Tucker University Design Sheet. Students will probably want to purchase the 2 new tools and the Studio 180 laminated Technique Sheet prior to the start of each class. If you already own a tool, you are not required to purchase another.

Instructor Bio: I have enjoyed working with the Studio 180 Design Tools since their inception, and working with Deb Tucker at the Houston Quilt Markets since she first developed the tools. Having taught Elementary grades for about 16 years, I understand that not all students learn in the same manner and have patience and knowledge to work with a large variety of skill levels and needs. I have taught numerous hand embroidery/sewing/piecing classes at many shops in the Austin/Temple/Houston areas. I am passionate about working with color and design, love working with people, and am more interested in my students understanding what they are being taught than completing their project.
