Instructor Bio: My love of handwork began in my early 20?s beginning with crewel embroidery and crossstitch. In the late 80?s, I learned to smock (embroidery on pleated fabric) and quilt. While managing the smocking/heirloom department at Ginger?s Needlearrts (a store in Austin which specialized in counted threadwork, smocking, silk ribbon and later quilting) Hardanger, Silk ribbon embroidery, wool embroidery, white work, & needlepoint were added to my skills. I taught hundreds of people to smock and create silk ribbon embroidery designs. In 1998, one of my original smocking designs was published in Creative Needle magazine. Shortly afterward, the smocking department at Ginger?s was closed and I started Midnight Creations. A herniated disc in my neck resulted in a slow down with smocking, but provided an opportunity to improve my quilting skills. I taught at most of the shops in the Austin/Temple area, taught for EGA Austin, and served on the National SAGA Board. In 2006, I assisted with the opening of Poppy Quilt ?n Sew where I worked for 12 years.
