Joy of Collage

Saturday, August 8   9:30 am - 4:00 pm

This hands-on workshop introduces students to the art and creative technique of fabric collage quilting. Students will explore how to use color and texture and build textile creations. Students will learn how to select fabrics, create layers in their design, and quilt it. The workshop covers skills, such as value and color planning, and how to use Steam a Seam II. Each student will gain confidence in both artistic decision-making and technical execution. Come and create your own masterpiece. Your choice of pattern is included. Don’t forget to bring your lunch!

Pattern:

• Select your pattern from the picture above.
• The instructor will contact you several days prior to class.
• Your pattern will be provided at the start of class. 

Supplies for class:

• Pattern will be provided at the start of class (instructor will contact you several days before to select pattern from above)
• 1 yd Pattern Ease, Pellon Easy Pattern 830, or voile for your foundation
• 2 ½ yd Steam-A-Seam or Steam-A-Seam Lite
• Fine point Black Sharpie pen and sharp pencil
• Rotary cutter/small cutting mat
• Applique pressing sheet
• Fabric scissors (if cutting motifs small scissors come in handy)Paper scissors
  • Optional: Kay Buckley Perfect scissors
• Pencil or pen
• Couple of pages of blank white copy paper
• Fabric Fuse Glue
• Background fabric
• And of course…FABRIC - large and small florals, paisley, leaves, batiks, blenders, solids, etc. The more variety the better! You can bring scraps, fat quarters or charm packs!

After you finish your collage you will need background, border, backing and binding fabric. I do not decide on my background until my motif is finished!
